The first time I came in contact with makeup was when I was only a toddler at an early age of 5. Little did I know that it was going to change my whole idea about beauty, and ultimately affect my passion. Of course, it did not happen instantaneously but it quite gave me a purpose and happiness in life. Since then, I began to explore different colors and play around with it. My first works were not necessarily appealing to everyone so as to give an impression of what a standard beauty should be. In reality, some of them may look like a color explosion or a chaotic rainbow. Yet, they are arts because they are expressions of creative ideas. This intro may sound a little serious but with no further ado, I would like to share my makeup career adventure to anyone who might be riding on the same boat!
In June 2011, I had the privilege to study professional makeup class at the School of Fashion and the Arts in Manila. I made a step forward amidst financial challenges as I have always believed that formal education is a powerful way to learn and practice the craft. The course mainly focused on beauty, high fashion and introduction to special effects applications. The whole duration of the course was fast pacing yet thrilling since every session is always a learning experience. I got to learn the foundation of beauty-art as quickly as possible in a limited period of time. My most favorite part was doing the natural and high-fashion makeup. The contrast between the two looks is huge that you can either hate or love one of them or both. I like the natural for it is flawless and brings out the true beauty of the face. On the other hand, high-fashion was my best pick as it has the power to transform one personality to another with sophistication.
I also met a lot of amazing colleagues in the industry who I dearly treasure in every step of the way. In fact, after the course, many of us remained friends and kept in contact with each other. As I remember, our class joined a makeup fair as a group which was so rewarding for all of us. The more I am exposed to different projects, the more I appreciate relationships and experiences. The more I value connections, the more passion and hard work I put into my work. For me, everything about my makeup journey went unexpectedly impressive. It is truly humbling to find out a passion at a young age and still doing it with great joy until the present time. Thanks a lot for such colorful makeup experiences!
