Klarafestival 2017: Casablanca

Rekindling Casablanca as one of the most successful movies ever made in the last 100 years at the heart of the European Union is so timely as Klarafestival 2017 celebrates its annual event with the theme Home Sweet Home. The classical film has set its legacy. It’s time to bring it back to the audience with the special participation of renowned Brussels Philharmonic and Dirk Brossé as a conductor.

Classical as it is

Whenever we mention the word classical, we mean of any subject with the highest value established over a period of time. For instance, the Mona Lisa painting by Leonardo da Vinci is a fine example of classical art. In fashion, we say Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior are names that stand out up until today. These are few of the many that make a paradigm of a successful legacy which later on we call classical. That’s why in our generation, we have the term classy which signifies high status.

Casablanca(1942)

In a film genre, it would be no surprise if Casablanca is on the list of the most well-known films of all time. The classical love story film was made by Director Michael Curtiz through Warner Brothers during World War II where many people wanted to leave Europe for America. The plot revolves mainly around Rick Blaine(Humphrey Bogart) who runs Rick’s Café Americain and had a love encounter with Ilsa(Ingrid Bergman) who happens to be in Casablanca with her husband Victor Laszlo(Paul Henreid), a Jewish rebel. The couple will finally receive help from Rick to escape the country after all the commotions with the Germans and despite Rick’s heartache from Ilsa.

Home Sweet Home

The Klarafestival 2017 with its theme focusing on migration and dislocation, exile and identity paved the way to present us Casablanca with a twist of the live orchestra by Brussels Philharmonic. The film concert took place last March 12, 2017, in BOZAR, Palais des Beaux-Arts. The Klarafestival together with the sponsors brought us back to the old life-love scenarios where uncertainties are inevitable due to war conflicts. Moreover, the festival delivers its best to the viewers by giving perks such as photo-booth, make-up touch-ups, and picture taking on Casablanca backdrop. For the VIPs, they received tons of treats from a service ride by Mercedes Benz and G4S to the walk-in dinner venue, followed by the much-awaited cine concert of Casablanca with live music by Brussels Philharmonic.

It is truly a home sweet home for everyone who participated in the cine concert that captured so many hearts from the start.
